A daily digest of Maimonides' classic work
•
• Positive Commandment 3
•
1) Loving G-d
2) "And you shall love the L-rd, your G-d"-Deuteronomy 6:5.
3) We are commanded to love G-d. We foster a love for G-d by studying and contemplating His Torah, His commandments, and His awesome deeds. Through studying and meditating about G-d we come to have somewhat of an understanding of His greatness-which automatically spawns a deep love for Him.
4) This mitzvah also includes sharing our knowledge of G-d with others, and calling upon our fellows to serve Him. After all, if we love G-d, we'd surely sing His praises before all who are ready to hear.
•
• Positive Commandment 4
•
a) Fearing G-d
b) "You shall fear the L-rd, your G-d"-Deuteronomy 6:13.
c) We are commanded to fear G-d; never to be complacent, and to always bear in mind that transgressing His will leads to divine retribution.
d) This is also why we never say G-d's Name in vain - not in the context of a prayer or blessing - for this diminishes the fear and reverence we are commanded to harbor for Him.
•
• Positive Commandment 9
•
Sanctifying G-d's Name
"And I will be sanctified among the Children of Israel"-Leviticus 22:32.
We are commanded to sanctify G-d's holy Name by publicly proclaiming our faith and religion. In the event that a tyrant attempts to coerce us to renounce our belief in G-d, we are commanded to refuse to comply-even if the tyrant threatens to kill us. We may not even verbally deny our belief in G-d, though in our hearts we remain true to Him.

a. Jews Commanded 1st Mitzvah (1313 BCE)
2. Shortly before sundown on the 29th of Adar, G-d commanded Moses regarding the mitzvah of sanctifying the crescent new moon and establishing a lunar calendar. This is the first mitzvah the Jews were given as a nation.
3. Moses had difficulty envisaging the moon's appearance at the exact moment of its monthly rebirth. After the sun set, G-d showed Moses the crescent new moon of the new month of Nissan, showing him the precise dimensions of the moon at the moment the new month is to be consecrated.
4. For the generations that followed, each new month was ushered in when two witnesses testified before the Sanhedrin (rabbinic supreme court) that they had seen the molad, the new moon. In the 4th century CE, Hillel II foresaw that the Jews would no longer be able to follow a Sanhedrin-based calendar. So Hillel and his rabbinical court established the perpetual calendar which is followed today -- until Moshiach will come and reestablish the Sanhedrin.

• Napoleon's "Sanhedrin" Dissolved (1807)
• A few months after its creation, Napoleon's "Sanhedrin" (rabbinical supreme court) was dissolved. The Sanhedrin was created to approve certain religious regulations requested by the French "Assembly of Notables." The regulations were designed to blur the distinction between Jews and non-Jews.
• The rulings of this pseudo-Sanhedrin were never adopted by Jewish communities.

Master of the Universe! The sages of the Talmud pleaded before You to bring the Moshiach, but You chose not to do so. The holy Kabbalists of Safed begged You to bring Moshiach -- again You were unwilling. We have reached the point where it is left to someone of my ilk to ask for the Redeemer. Still You are holding out.... Mark my words! There will come a generation who will have no interest in You or Your Moshiach. Then You will have no choice but to bring him..

• Female boxer shot before fight by stepfather in Berlin
Rola El-Halabi in 2008A female boxer has been shot in her dressing room before a world championship title fight by her stepfather in Berlin, Germany. Lebanese born Rola El-Halabi was shot in the hands, knees and feet while she was preparing for the fight. She survived the shooting but may never be able to return to the ring. Two secruity guards were also injured in the attack.
El-Halabi has spoke about the shooting to German media saying "I was with my coach and manager in the changing room when Dad rushed into the room, threatening us with a gun and shouted 'All Out!'. Then he shot me in the hand from three feet away, I cried and cried, begging him to put the gun away. He threatened to shoot himself, but he was too cowardly. He took his time aiming and and shot me in the knee, then in my right foot."
Malte Mueller-Michaelis, her promoter commented on her condition saying "Her operation went smoothly, but the shots were intended to end her career and it seems almost certain that that will happen." It is believed that the shooting was due to El-Halabi's decision to stop working with her stepfather as her manager.
The 26 year-old had been due to fight Irma Adler of Bosnia for the WIBF world lightweight title. El-Halabi has an undefeted record with 11 wins and is the former holder of two world titles.

As I previously predicted upon their election, the current crop of cattle that the American people unwittingly, misguidedly sent to the Congress because of lies and slanders told us about President Obama by the Oligarchs in the Republican Party, the current crop of cattle have proven to be zanier than a barrel of drunken monkeys. I call them ijots because they are less than idiots, and are unworthy to be called that name. These ijots are beyond blind and clueless. They are like the scorpion who bit the frog swimming him across the river. They attack the President without rhyme or reason because it is in their nature as malcontents to attack. These bull in a China shop never saw a piece of crockery that they don’t want to smash. They are unstable! Can anyone forget Speaker Baner sobbing like a troubled woman experiencing PMS or a petulant teenager on the rag? That Bipolar moment that he had was emblematic of this crew of crazies in need of mood stabilizers. Now the Bozos are on the verge of closing down the government. They want you to believe that it is the fault of The Obama administration, but we know that it is a lie, don’t we? These pirates WANT to shut down the government, since they don’t believe in it. At such a pivotal moment in the history of this Great Nation, can we afford to have a bunch of emotionally unstable haters in the congress? If they succeed in bungling the Federal government to close, think of all of the people who count on Federal program who will suffer. Can we afford to keep these crazy crew of characters roaming and running loose in the Congress?
